Mould Is a Major Issue in Homes and Commercial Buildings

Warmth and moisture create the ideal conditions for mould growth. Mould is most commonly seen growing inside in homes and other buildings which have sustained water damage. There are literally thousands of species of mould and somewhere between 50 to 100 of these species are known to cause health problems in humans and animals, including asthma, sinusitis and respiratory infections; many cases of sick building syndrome are mould-related. Not only can mould and other fungi cause health problems, it can also cause serious structural damage to the surfaces that they grow on. Mould and fungi use cellulose (such as wood, for instance) as a source of food, slowly destroying the surfaces as they grow. Mould growth often causes staining on the surface, which is often removed using bleach or peroxide based products.
